Racing returns to the heart of downtown Roanoke with this 5 corner, 1KM course which offers fast, long straight-aways and classic brick sections.  Fantastic locations for spectators along the Transportation Walkway.

Entry is full price for first criterium per day is $30, then additional criterium per day is $20 (for Masters & Senior 1-4, N/A to Cat 5 or Women)  Juniors first race is $10, additional $20 for Senior races (VA BAR rule 5e)

REGISTRATION

  • Online registration is closed.

  • Onsite registration:

  • USCF License required

    • All USCF One-Day license racers

      • Men under 30, register as Men Cat 5, or can race under Masters age category*

      • Women under 40, register as Women Cat 4, or can race under Masters age category*

      • * typically, all new racers are only allowed to race M Cat 5 or W Cat 4 in mass start events such as road races & criteriums.  However, time trials are not mass start and a race against the clock, so these new racers can race within their respective qualifying age category.

  • One-Day licenses and Juniors can register on day of event(s).

  • USAC Road One-Day license is $10 which can be obtained on-site, not online.

  • $6 same-day registration fee (N/A to Men Cat 5, Women Cat 4, One-Day license or Juniors).

  • NO Mail-in entries. NO refunds. NO entry swapping or selling.

  • 2008 VA BAR champions:  register online, receive reimbursement check by mail minus USAC and VA BAR fees

  • Pre-registered racers:  have printed online registration receipt, valid USCF and drivers license which must be presented 30 minutes prior to the start of your event.

  • Day-of registering racers: have FILLED USCF and Games waivers, valid USCF and drivers license.

  • Cash or check accepted (NO CREDIT CARDS for registration, USCF 1-day license or renewal)

GENERAL RULES

All races adhere to the USCF RulebookVA BAR points

  • Highlighted Rules

    • DO NOT RIDE/WARM UP/RETURN ON COURSE!!!  Use Walnut Ave/JP Fishburn Parkway to return or warm up, also use Roanoke River Greenway to warm up

    • Must wear helmet at all times: racing, warming up, sitting on, standing over, anytime on your bike!  The only exception is while on stationary rollers or trainer.

    • No urinating in public - designated areas only.   You will be disqualified if you are caught urinating in public - ZERO TOLERANCE!  NO REFUNDS!

    • Unsportsmanlike behavior will also result in disqualification: foul language to other participants, spectators, law enforcement, volunteers and race officials; also pushing, punching, biting, kicking and hair pulling

    • Helmets mandatory at all times participating or preparing for the event. All participants mounted on a bicycle shall wear a securely fastened helmet that meets either the US DOT helmet standards or one of the following standards: ANSI, Snell "B" or "N" series, ASTM, CSA, or CPSC

GENERAL AWARDS

  • King and Queen of the Mountain top prize for fastest posted time of the day:

  • Daily awards listed above in schedule of events per category.

  • Must register no later than 5:30PM Points Omnium Purse 

  • Gold, Silver, Bronze medals for Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia for each event race category

  • $500 record breaker bonus.  Must break the 8m29s (corrected) record set by Brian Walton

    • if won, 2nd fastest time of the day advances to first place money for the top 25 fastest times

  • Gold, Silver, Bronze medals for Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia for the following TT categories:

    • Men Cat 1, Cat 2, Cat 3, Cat 4; Women Cat 1, Cat 2, Cat 3

    • Men Cat 5/Juniors/Masters/One Day licensed: 10-12; 13-14; 15-16; 17-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+

    • Women Cat 4/Juniors/Masters/One Day licensed: 10-12; 13-14; 15-16; 17-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+

  • All racers can enter and do not have to be a VA resident to race.

  • All categories are eligible for CG medals; 3 overall medals and top 3 VA resident medals per category

  • Pro racers are not eligible for any medals.

  • VA BAR Qualifying Races

    • Any racer can acquire VA BAR points.

    • Points for VA BAR (Best All-around Rider) - all categories will be scored separately.

    • Cat 3 VA BAR Points are awarded in the Men Cat 3/4 Criteriums only.

    • Masters 40, 50 & 60+ VA BAR Points are scored separately as well as CG Medals.

    • All competitors must register, compete and place in respective category to earn points.  Please review the 2009 VA BAR Rules at www.vacycling.org

    • The chart below indicates VA BAR points awarded to the weekend races.

Race 1 text directions from Interstate 581/220:

From southbound, take Exit 5.
Stay left on ramp which merges onto Williamson Rd.
Follow Williamson Rd., at 4th traffic light, turn right onto Campbell Ave.
Take Campbell Ave to 1st street, course is on Salem Ave (parallel to Campbell on right)

From northbound, take Ext 4E.
Ramp merges onto Rt 460/Orange Ave.
Stay in right lane and at 1st traffic light, take turning lane and merge onto Williamson Rd.
Follow Williamson Rd., at 6th traffic light, turn right onto Campbell Ave.
Take Campbell Ave to 1st street, course is on Salem Ave (parallel to Campbell on right)

Parking: available on all city streets and paid parking areas.  Please read all parking signs.

Accomodations:  The host hotels are USAC member discounts at Hampton Inn or the Holiday Inn Tanglewood is the offering a deal for the Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia.
